Briarcliff Residence

The owner wanted a large added screened living space off of the existing kitchen and living room. Grilling and cooking outdoors was another important item to address so we created a custom outdoor kitchen. The kitchen component is a part of a new open terrace that connects the new porch to a courtyard area on grade. We designed a heavy stone base connecting the home to the site with a timber framed screened structure above. Adding to the natural material palette the new space has blue stone flooring throughout accented with custom concrete features like the mantle, custom counter, and cascading stair. The large stone wood burning fireplace provides a focal point from inside and outside of the addition. We designed an open vaulted space to create an outdoor room that connects to the wooded backyard. A new fire pit was added to the ground floor courtyard area to provide another space for the family to gather. We worked with Brian Maloy at Fusoform to design and create an outdoor kitchen with custom built in grills, an integral sink, and open bar space all seamlessly working together. With a fire burning at night and the uplighting of the vaulted ceiling the space glows a warm comfortable light, combining with landscape lighting to make the addition really remain alive. All of the new spaces of the addition work integrally with the existing structure to look as though it was original to the home.
